"We are using CUPS for print functionality, which is proven very stable and does work with a large number of printers. Unlike printer manufacturers who certified their device for an operating system, we can’t do the same as our device is used as a pass-through for printing jobs.

Also we do state in our documentation: The StorCenter print server is not guaranteed to work with all printers. For best results, use a printer without multi-function features.

If you require more information, please do not hesitate to contact us again."

Yes, I require more information, I require the list of compatible printers as specified in the Iomega documentation. Let's see which comes first, new documentation, or an answer.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, sounds disappointing to say the least. I'm wondering if your problems are Mac related - have you had a chance to try on a PC, yes, you hate me now & there is no reason for inadequate Mac support in this day and age but me thinks Iomega products have always been a bit shoddy (work had Zip drives that all became redundant with the advent of Win XP, I had a ditto drive that worked on the first Wednesday of a month if it was raining or some similar unlikely occurence) - I just keep hoping as they have good pricing that one day something will work really well.

Have tried the iConnect for some days on my iMac. Spent hours trying to get it to work like I want - and still it doesn´t. Automated back-ups through OS X´ Time Machine application does not work. Streaming to my DLNA-certified TV does not work. Torrents? Ha. No chance. Just plain copy and paste of files to and from the unit takes forever. It is a cheap NAS. But out-of-the-box it does not perform at all. I will invest a few more hours on this thing before it flies out of my window (it probably won´t fly very well either).

You are quite correct about colourfastness, the HP inks for the D5460 claim to last longer and you can buy special inks for archive purposes but how does one test them properly?

I did look long & hard at a wireless printer before I bought this one, I don't know if it has changed but at the time there was a significant premium for wireless and the printers were all inferior.

I want to buy something like an Iomega IConnect for sharing the printer & usb storage - it's much cheaper than a proper NAS and is simple & low power. Unfortunately I'm still awaiting a response from Iomega on the supported printer list (I don't believe they brought a product to market without realising there is 2-way comms on usb printers nowadays & that's the usual stumbling block of sharing them).

First point I assert is that no ink is colour-fast. It is all dependant on the UV exposure.

I have 3 printers at the moment - a Canon I was given along with a bucket load of cartridges, an HP D2360 which was cheaper than a set of replacement carts, and an HP 895 which is so old that the fooling technology hadn't been invented. The carts in both HPs are refilled. However, the carts can only be refilled so often before refilling stops working.

The plan is to run these out (ie no refills anymore) and replace all 3 with a wireless all-in-one.

I was fiddling until past midnight last night and I've got almost everything working for a "production" install, still impressed :-)

The only dilemma I now have is that the web is full of people who are managing to get my model of laptop (Acer Aspire 5920G) working with Windows 7 and getting shot of Vista on here so it can perform would be a blessing.

Had the RC installed. Very impressed with it. Biggest plus was losing the BSOD whenever writing to a CD/DVD when the network driver was enabled.

This plus overshadowed the minus of no scanner, video capture device, or webcam support (and probably the high quality printer but it is not plugged in).

So in summary I will be getting the Home Premium edition for my birthday (already bought!) and dual booting with an XP disk for the bits that do not work.
